不老松植根于灵应台下、南五台山南坡，树高30余米，树围4米有余，自灵应台向西南俯瞰，其冠如华盖，郁郁葱葱，被誉为“南山不老松”。不老松主干分三枝，三枝又生九枝桠，是棵名副其实的九头松。根据史料考证和《现代汉语词典》注解，“寿比南山不老松”即指秦岭终南山，《诗经•小雅•天保》中有：“如月之恒，如日之升，如南山之寿，不骞不崩。如松柏之茂，无不尔或承。”《诗经》中称秦岭为南山，概因其处国家之中、都城之南，此亦是终南山之由来。

The Never Aging Pine is rooted under Lingying Platform and on the south slope of South Wutai Mountain. The tree is more than 30 meters high and the circumference of the tree trunk is more than 4 meters. Overlooking the southwest on Lingying Platform, you can see the crown of the pine like a canopy with lush branches and leaves. This tree is known as the “Nanshan Ageless Pine Tree”. The main branch of the Ageless Pine Tree has three branches which developed into nine subbranches, so the tree is a nine-head pine veritably. Proved by the historical data and noted in the Modern Chinese Dictionary, “NanShan” in the sentence “Live as long as Nanshan Ageless Pine Tree” refers to Qinling Mount Zhongnanshan. The Book of Songs ▪Xiaoya ▪ God’s Blessedness: “You are as constant as the moon, as rising as the sun, living as long as the pine of Nanshan, you will never collapse. As luxuriance of pines and cypresses, you will inherit blessedness and longevity forever.” Qinling Mountains is called Nanshan in the Book of Songs. It is located in the middle of the country, to the south of the capital. This is also the origin of its name of Zhongnanshan.
